Councilwoman Norma Macias
was born and raised in the City of El Monte where she attended
local public schools and is a graduate of Arroyo High School.
Upon graduating from high school, she attended Rio Hondo Community
College and transferred to Cal State Los Angeles obtaining
a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Philosophy. She went on to obtain
a Masters Degree in Architecture from The Catholic University
of America in Washington, D.C. Ms. Macias has over 10 years
of experience working in architecture both in the private
and public sector. She has recently served as a Project Manager
overseeing municipal projects and has been successful in securing
hundreds of thousands of dollars in federal grant funds for
the city of South El Monte.
Prior to being elected to the City Council, Ms. Macias served
as Chair of the Planning Commission and is a founding member
of the El Monte Coalition of Latino Professionals. Ms. Macias
is an active volunteer for the local Meals on Wheels program
servicing the cities of South El Monte and El Monte and is
on the board for the El Monte/South El Monte Emergency Resources
Association.
Councilwoman Norma Macias currently serves as the City’s
Delegate for the League of California Cities. Her top priorities
in council are promoting economic development, local hiring,
tree preservation and tree planting, and providing services
for our Seniors and Youth.
Councilwoman Macias resides with her mother, Consuelo, who
is actively involved at Nativity Church & Our Lady of
Guadalupe Church. Her sister, Amalia, teaches 7th grade at
Kranz Middle School.
